Mawlānā Sa‘eed Aḥmed Akbar A’ābādī (1908-1985) was one of the broad-minded ‘ulamas of the 20th century in the Indian sub-continent. He received both conventional as well as modern education and later taught there too. The course of intellectual erudition and personality impacts of Mawlānā Akbar A’ābādī was not only restricted to sub-continent but rather he travelled many countries across the globe as an expert scholar in Islāmic knowledge. Since the nature of these travels to various countries in different times was scholarly, they are described in his letters and travelogue. His travels to different countries and participation in scholarly meetings made him more splendors in his insights and provided knowledge and experience which is noticeable in his personality. This can be reviewed in the article under review. Mawlānā’s travelogues are the essence of his profound observations and studies. This article discusses some merits of this translation under sub-headings like an idiomatic translation, avoiding use of brackets in translation, lucidity of language, strict adherence to actual meaning of Arabic words, a translation in pure French, great concern for translating the words related to Allah and His messengers, scientific translation of the verses pertaining to science. Dr. Hamidullah has also added concise footnotes wherein he has referred to Hadith literature, biography of the Prophet (upon whom be peace and greeting) and earlier scriptures etc. On the whole, it is considered as the best rendition of the Holy Qur’ān in French language and Muslim scholars have highly appreciated it.

Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Parray, Assistant Professor, Govt. Degree College Pulwama, Higher Education Department, Jammu & Kashmir, India.
    Email: tauseef.parray21@gmail.com
    Abstract:

Da’wah (preaching of Islam) is one of the significant themes of Islamic scholarship. Numerous works have been written on this theme—its guiding principles, importance, strategies, and other inter-related aspects—in different languages (like Arabic, English, and Urdu). In the Urdu language, especially from the second half of the 20th century, a great deal of literature has been produced on the different dimensions of this theme.
In this essay, an appraisal and assessment of ten (10) works on Da’wah in Urdu language, produced from 1950s to 2000s, has been made. These works deal with da’wah and its various theoretical aspects like methodology, tactics, policies, and principles, as well as with various practical aspects and dimensions. Reviewed and assessed as per the dates of their publication, not as per their contents or the subject matter, an appraisal of these works reveals that the Urdu literature is not only rich on highlighting this particular theme of Islamic scholarship, but this literature is significant and commendable as well. This essay will prove helpful and useful (in general) to those readers who have no access to these books; and to the English readers (in particular) who are not familiar with these works.
